April Proffitt McCroskey was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was raised in Lenoir City, Tennessee. She is a graduate of Maryville College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Business & Organizational Management (2007).

Mrs. McCroskey graduated from John Marshall Law School in Atlanta, Georgia (2010). While in law school, she clerked for the Georgia State Court of Appeals.

Mrs. McCroskey was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 2010. She is a member of the Knoxville Bar Association and the Tennessee Bar Association.

Mrs. McCroskey was awarded the 2018 Pro Bono Service award by the Tennessee Supreme Court in October of 2018.
